"Katsokaa, veljet, ettei vain kenelläkään teistä ole paha, epäuskoinen sydän". Kirjoittaja puhuu keskinäisestä huolenpidosta, jota sanotaan rakkaudeksi. Kysymys olekaan vain minusta, vaan koko seurakunnasta.
EPÄUSKO = epäluottamus Jumalan totuuteen ja huolenpitoon, panna luottamuksensa omiin aisteihinsa, ihmisiin, rahaan, kirkon- tai herätysliikkeen totuuteen, maailman totuuteen ja -systeemiin.
LUOPUA ELÄVÄSTÄ JUMALASTA = luopua luottamuksesta Jumalaan = epäusko
Epäuskoinen sydän on paha. Epäuskossa ei ole kysymys siitä, että ei usko, että olisi ateisti tai mukana jossain pakanauskonnossa. Epäuskoinen on uudestisyntynyt ja hän tuntee totuuden, mutta ei luota Jumalaan. Epäuskoinen turvautuu omaan järkeensä ja omiin aisteihinsa kuten Tuomas; "Ellen näe hänen käsissään naulojen jälkiä ja pistä sormeani naulojen sijoihin ja pistä kättäni hänen kylkeensä, en minä usko" (Joh. 20:25). Epäuskoinen luottaa omiin aisteihinsa ja maailman viisauteen enemmän kuin Jumalan totuuteen. Hän syö väärästä puusta ja pitää tätä valintaansa parempana kuin Jumalan totuutta, joka on vain uskonvaraista. Se tarkoittaa, että hän epäilee Jumalan sanan luotettavuutta, mikä taas tarkoittaa, että hän halveksii Jumalaa ja Hänen totuuttaan; kävelee Jumalan yli, polkee jalkoihinsa. Sen vuoksi epäusko on kuolemansynti.
"minun vanhurskaani on elävä uskosta, ja jos hän vetäytyy pois, ei minun sieluni mielisty häneen". (Hepr. 10:38/KR38)
"Mutta ilman uskoa on mahdoton olla otollinen" (Hepr. 11:6/KR38)
