'Rakkaus peittää syntien paljouden', - siis kenen syntien? Miten peittää? Tarkoittaako Pietari sitä, että rakkaus ei huuda julki lähimmäisen syntejä, vaan 'peittää', jättää ne huomiotta?
Ennen kaikkea olkoon teidän rakkautenne toisianne kohtaan harras (ektenes), sillä "rakkaus peittää (kalupto) syntien paljouden".
